Firstly, Giving precedence and preference to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, over anyone else:

Allah, The Almighty, preferred His Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, to all creation; the first and the last of them. He, peace and blessings be upon him, is the seal, leader and master of all Prophets, may Allah exalt their mention. In this regard, it was narrated that the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Verily Allah granted eminence to Kinaanah from amongst the descendants of Ismaa‘eel (i.e. Ishmael), may Allah exalt his mention, and he granted eminence to the Quraysh amongst Kinaanah and he granted eminence to the Banu Haashim amongst Quraysh and he granted me eminence from the tribe of Banu Hasahim."

He, peace and blessings be upon him, also said: "I am the master of the sons of Adam and no boast and the first for whom the grave will be opened and the first to intercede and the first whose intercession will be accepted."

Believing in the preference of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to all mankind leads to feeling the prestige dignity, solemnity, great standing of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and remembering his virtues, noble attributes and status, the meaning that brings about loving and venerating him, and all other things that make the heart always remember his due right of veneration and respect, acknowledging and submitting to him. Heart is the king of all other organs which act as just soldiers to it. Thus, whenever the veneration of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, becomes deeply rooted in one's heart in all different circumstances, then the effects of this will definitely manifest on one's organs. At this time, we will find tongue moist with praising, commending him and remembering his noble merits and even all other organs will submit to all what he, peace and blessings be upon him, came with, follow its religion and commands, fulfill all rights and honor due to him."

Some people went astray regarding this important issue such as:

A-          Ar-Raafidhah  (i.e. a deviant sect), the extremist, who preferred their infallible (according to their claim) scholars to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.

B-          As-Soofiyah Al-Baatiniyyah  who preferred their Awliyaa'  (kinds of “saints”) to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.

Both actions, may Allah guard us against this, are a form of apostasy, disbelief and atheism and going against the reported religious texts and consensus of Muslims.
