Episode 6: Truthfulness (2-3), The place of truthfulness in the Sharia'
Truthfulness is the top of virtues, and is the foundation of virtuous morals. In [the Holy Quran], Allah has decreed it and has commended those having it as an attribute. [Allah] (glory be to Him) said: (O you who believe! Fear Allah, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds))(1). The prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) has urged [on embracing truthfulness] and informed that it is the motivator to all good and the carrier to levels [mentioned in a hadeeth] according to Abdullah ibn Masoud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: (Indeed, truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Heaven, and indeed a man continues to be truthful until he becomes a truthful person. And indeed, lying leads to immorality, and immorality leads to hell, and indeed a man continues to lie until he is designated by Allah as a liar)(2). Many verses have been cited [in the Holy Quran] that are related to truthfulness, encourage it and praise the people having it. One of which is Allah the exalted saying: (Among the Believers are men who have been true to their Covenant with Allah: of them some have fulfilled their obligation, and some (still) await: but they have never changed (their determination) in the least: That Allah may reward the men of Truth for their Truth)(3), and Allah the exalted said: (This is a day on which the truthful will profit from their truth: theirs are Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise) - they shall abide therein forever: Allah is pleased with them and they with Him. That is the great success (Paradise))(4).
