(5) "And Allaah did take Ibraaheem (Abraham) as a Khaleel (an intimate friend),  brought Moosa (Moses) near in private conference, and took me as His beloved and then said, By Majesty and Honor, I will prefer my beloved to my intimate friend and the one I brought near in private conference."

The Verification of the Hadeeth: Its Isnaad (chain of transmission) is very weak.

The Above Hadeeth was reported by Al-Waahidy in Asbaab An-Nuzool (1/65) from the route of Maslamah Al-Khushni from Zayd ibn Waaqid from Al-Qaasim ibn Mukhaymarah from Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, as a Maroof‘ (1) Hadeeth.

It was also reported from the route of Maslamah Al-Khushni by Al-Bayhaqi in Shu‘ab Al-Imaan (1468), Ibn ‘Asaakir in Tareekh Dimashq (Mukhtasarih 1/163) and Ibn Al-Jawzi in Al-Mawdhoo‘aat (1/290).

Its Isnaad is very weak. Al-Bayhaqi said: "Maslamah ibn ‘Ali is weak according to the scholars of Hadeeth."

Imam Al-Bukhaari, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: "His Hadeeth is Munkar (2). Ibn Ma‘een said: "He narrated only few Hadeeths."

Abu Haatim said: "His Hadeeth is weak and no much attention should be paid to his Hadeeth for his Hadeeth is Munkar."

Ibn Hibaan said: "He was one of those who used to change the chain of transmissions and report from the trustworthy narrators what is not in their Hadeeths due to illusion and when this was occurred repeatedly from him, then it is not fit to be quoted as evidence." Al-Bayhaqi said: "He is weak according to the scholars of Hadeeth."

An-Nasaa‘i said: "His Hadeeth is Matrook (3)." Al-Haafith said in At-Taqreeb: "His Hadeeth is Matrook (4)"

Ibn Al-Jawzi said: "This Hadeeth is not authentic because it was only reported by Maslamah from Zayd." Refer to Al-Mawdhoo‘aat by Ibn Al-Jawzi (1/290), Al-Lalikaa'i (1/250), Tanzeeh Ash-Sharee‘ah (1/333), Asna Al-Mataalib (1/25) As-Silsilah Adh-Dha‘eefah (1605) and Da‘eef Al-Jaami‘ (90).
