22- It was narrated on the authority of Mu‘aath ibn Jabal, may Allaah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If you wish, I will inform you of the first (words) Allah, Exalted and Glorified be He, will say to the believers on the Day of Resurrection and of the first (words) you will say to Him." The Companions said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Indeed Allah, The Almighty, will say to the believers, 'Did you love to meet me?' They will say, 'Yes, O our Lord.' He, The Most Exalted, will say, 'And what made you (want) that?' They will say, 'Your Forgiveness, Your Mercy, Your Pleasure' He, The Most Exalted, will say, 'I have made My Mercy to be obligatory for you.'
The Verification of the Hadeeth: Its Isnaad (i.e. chain of transmission) is weak.
It was reported by Imam Ahmad, may Allaah have mercy upon him, (22723) from the route of ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Zahr from Khaalid ibn Abi ‘Imraan from Abi ‘Ayaash from Muhaa‘th ibn Jabal.
It was also reported from the route of ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Zahr by Ibn Al-Mubaarak in Az-Zuhd (277), At-Tayaalisi in his Musnad (559), At-Tabaraani in Al-Kabeer (184), in Al-Awaa'il (66), Ibn ‘Aasim also in Al-Awaa'il (127), Al-Bayhaqi in Shu‘ab Al-Imaan (1063) Abu Na‘eem in Al-Hilyah (179/8), Ibn Abi Ad-Duna in thinking good of Allah, The Almighty, (10), Al-Baghawi in Sharh As-Sunnah (5/31).
Its Isnaad is weak because of ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Zahr. Imam Ahmad and Yahya ibn Ma‘een deemed him weak.
Abu Haatim said: "He reports weak Hadeeths." ‘Ali ibn Al-Madeeni: "His Hadeeth is Munkar ." Ad-Daarqutuni said: "He is not strong."
Ibn Hibaan said: "His Hadeeth is very Munkar and reports fabricated Hadeeths from trustworthy narrators…" (1).
It was also reported by At-Tabaraani in Al-Kabeer (16610), Musnad Ash-Shamiyeen (399) from the route of Khaalid ibn Ma‘daan from Mu‘aath and it is Mursal because Khaalid ibn Ma‘daan did not hear from Mu‘aath ibn Jabal as in Tahtheeb Al-Kamaal (8/167) and As-Seer (4/536).
