Also, the fierce attack of ignorant people that we see against the traditions and biography of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. This can be easily observed in what is broadcasted in different mass media explicitly or implicitly, outwardly and inwardly. And Allah is the One Whose help we seek.
“It is really beneficial for the Muslim individual to think highly of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, with witnesses and proofs that the non-Muslims see and thus he will have to do nothing except to regard it highly and as they are. That is because the Muslim individual who regards Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, in this way actually loves him two times; firstly because of his religion that no one shares it with him and the other due to the human noble characteristics that all people share.”
It is sufficient to me, by touching upon this topic, to get the love of all Muslim individuals and nothing other than this.
I walk behind the superior caravan while I suffer from lameness hoping to discover the defect that I may find out.
If I caught them up after they have preceded, then how great end from the Lord of creation this would be!
If I remained lagged behind, then there would be no blame on me due to my lameness
Let us move to a generation with whom we can live security and tranquility after we have tasted the fear and terror from the worldly life. Let me take a white thread from your heart to establish connection between us and them and a treat that may bridge somehow the gap between us and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and his veneration. The author of Ash-Shifa bita‘reef Huqooq Al-Mustafa (regarding the rights obligatory upon us towards the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) said: “It was stated that Imam Maalik, may Allah have mercy upon him, was asked about Abu Ayub As-Sikhtyaani? He said, I have never talked to you about anyone except Ayub is more trustworthy than him.”
Moreover, Imam Maalik, may Allah have mercy upon him, said about him: “He performed Hajj twice. I used to watch him but never heard something from him except whenever he remembers the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he cries until I pitied him. When I saw this from him and his great revering for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, I wrote about him.”
It was also reported that Mus‘ab ibn ‘Abdullaah said: “Imam Maalik, whenever the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was mentioned, his color would change, and he would incline his body until those who were sitting with him felt discomfort. This was mentioned to him and he said: “If you had seen what I have seen you would not have blamed me for what you see now.” Then added, ‘I used to see Muhammad ibn Al-Munkadir who was the master of the scholars (Sayyid Al-Qurra’), and we dared not ever ask him about a Hadeeth except he wept until we pitied him.” He went on saying: ‘I used to see Ja‘far ibn Muhammad, who used to smile a lot and have a sense of humour, yet whenever the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was mentioned, his face would turn pale. I have never seen him narrating the Hadeeth of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, except in a state of purification. For some time, I used to visit him regularly, I would see him doing one of these three things: praying, fasting, or reciting the Quran. He never talked about anything that did not concern him and he was one of the scholars and worshippers who had great fear of Allah, The Almighty.
Whenever the Hadeeth of the crying of the tree trunk is mentioned, Al-Hasan used to say: “O Muslims! A tree trunk longs for meeting the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, so we should feel more longing to be with him.”
Whenever ‘Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Al-Qaasim mentioned the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he turned pale as if the blood had been drained from his face, and his tongue dried-up due to reverence for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Also, I used to go to ‘Aamir ibn ‘Abdullaah ibn Az-Zubayr, and whenever the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was mentioned to him, he would weep so much, until he was unable to weep any longer.
Whenever weeping dries the tears of your eyes borrow another one from some who has eyes of much tears.
I saw Az-Zuhree – and he was from the kindest of people, and closest to them – that when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was mentioned to him, he would not be able to recognize anyone, nor would anyone be able to recognize
him (from his intense weeping).
I came to Safwaan ibn Sulaym – and he was one of the mujtahid scholars and worshippers – that whenever he mentioned the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he would weep, and he would not stop weeping, to the extent that the people would have to get up and leave him.”
‘Amr ibn Maymun is reported to have said: “I kept on frequently visiting ‘Abdullaah ibn Mas‘ud, may Allah be pleased with him, throughout a whole year, in which I never heard him narrating the Prophet’s traditions, or declaring: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said.” But once he related a Hadeeth with these words being spontaneously uttered by him: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said” Then, he felt distressed to the extent that I witnessed drops of sweat gliding down from his forehead!! Saying then: Allah Willing, either superior to that, or near it, or lower than it. Then, his jugular veins become swollen, the color of his face changed and his eyes became filled with tears.
It was also reported that Mu‘aawiyyah, may Allah be pleased with him, heard that Kaabis ibn Rabee‘ah, may Allah be pleased with him, resembled the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. When he entered upon him from the door of the house, he got up from his seat, met him and kissed him between the eyes and gave him Al-Mirghaab (A very valuable piece of land.) as a gift because of his resemblance to the Messenger of Allah, The Almighty, peace and blessings be upon him.
After such great examples (of revering the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him), where are we from their biographies? How far our conditions are from their conditions? What is the effect of love in us? What is the effect of love in them? Rather, what is the truth of what we claim? What is the truth of what they did not claim? What is the reality of what we claim? What are the indications of love for them?
Actually, it was established in their hearts what our hearts fall short to fulfill the least of it, they revived in their feelings what was died in our feelings, their eyes became attached to what is behind the sights while our eyes never went beyond our sights? Is there any man whose determination is not weak and whose work does not delay him? Is there any truthful person who can translate such love to practical words, deeds and the like? Is there any horseman who never returns except having one of the best choices (i.e. victory or martyrdom)?
My beloved Muslim fellow, time went away and afflictions became even worse and widespread. Many of us became busy with collecting worldly pleasures only. We lost love even if we claim it. We forget duties and thus they became just memories. We always talk about the Prophetic Sunnah (i.e. tradition) and guidance; however, we do not see a person who is serious in following the footsteps of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, nor a person who is truthful in speech, except few.
