Episode 8: The gate of good livelihood

Marriage is the way of good and lawful sustenance. Allah (Exalted be He) says: “And marry those among you who are single (i.e. a man who has no wife and the woman who has no husband whether they married then divorced or did not marry in the first place) and (also marry) the Sâlihûn (pious, fit and capable ones) of your (male) slaves and maid-servants (female slaves). If they be poor, Allah will enrich them out of His Bounty. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knowing (about the state of the people).”⁽¹⁾ This is a command of marriage. Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Allah exhorted them to marry as He commanded the free people and the slave with marriage and promised them with wealth as a result of marriage.

Ibn Mas`ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Seek richness in marriage. Allah (Glory be to Him) says: (If they are poor, Allah will enrich them of His Bounty)⁽²⁾.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: (There are three persons whom are entitled to gain the help of Allah: A fighter in the way of Allah, and the slave who has a contract of manumission, and the one who wants to marry to protect himself against adultery)⁽³⁾.

The phrase (are entitled to gain the help of Allah) is a confirmation for this help, and his saying: (The who wants to marry to protect himself against adultery) is an explanation that the help of Allah shall be given to those who want to marry to protect themselves against adultery and against falling into sins.

Anyone examines the conditions of married people around him and compares it with their status before marriage will see the promise of Allah clearly. Therefore, brothers and sisters, haste to marriage and do not let poverty be a barrier between you and marriage because the Provider of sustenance is Allah (Glory be to Him).

Reported by An-Nasa’y, Book of Marriage, chapter on the help of Allah to the one who wants to marry to protect himself against adultery 3218-6/61, Ibn Majah, chapter on the slave who is given the contract of manumission 2518-2/841, Ibn Hibban, book of marriage, Chapter on the help of Allah to the one who wants to marry to protect himself against adultery 4019-6/134, and Al Hakim, Book of Marriage 2 / 160 and he said: This Hadith is authentic according to the conditions of Muslim for accepting Hadith, however Al Bukhari and Muslim did not report this Hadith; this was also the view of Adh-Dhahaby and others.
