3- Maintenance

Whoever reads the Conduct of the Chosen one (peace be upon him) and his Statements, he will find this principle made evident by his sayings and actions. He encouraged his companion about that as well. That is because the home is the foundation stone upon which a society is built, from thence spreads truth or falsehood. Therefore, it is necessary to build it upon strong and tough foundation, by spending on it according to ones means, and through the bounties which Allah bestowed upon the man. That way, the family can experience those bounties with neither extravagance nor showing off. About this the messenger of Allah says: "The best Denarius is the one a man spends on his family, then the one he spends upon his animal for the sake of Allah, then the one he spends on his companions for the sake of Allah".

His advice to his noble companions would never lack mentioning this important principle in life, addresses issues that some of them regard as small, unfamiliar and do not merit second thoughts, such as putting food in the mouth of the wife, and this is very rewarding and fulfilling. This came in his piece of advice to one of the companions: "And you would not incur any expenses, except that you shall be rewarded. Even the morsel you raise to the mouth of your wife."

All of this was from the Messenger of Allah, out of respect towards the woman, because of her special rank, and to make up for what she experienced of deprivation and oppression prior to the coming of the Messenger, about whom Allah said: "Certainly a Messenger has come to you from among yourselves; grievous to him is your falling into distress, excessively solicitous respecting you; to the believers (he is) compassionate" [Surah At-Taubah, 128].

4- Kindness

The importance of this concept between couples is of utmost significance. Stress and worries are removed by way of kindness. And by it, hearts and souls are purified. It is one of the things which women have an inclination to love. This is due to the fact that she has more emotions than man, and is more delicate. Thus, the trustworthy messenger was kind to his wives. He would play and make jokes with them. He even raced them. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I went out with the messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in one of his trips, while I was still a maiden; I was neither fat nor carried much weight. He said to those who were with him, "move ahead! So they did. He then said to me: "Come, let’s race." I raced him and won. He kept quiet about it until I gained weight, got fat and forgot. I joined him in one of his travels, so he said to the people, "move ahead!" So they did. He then said to me: "Come let’s race." This time he won. He then started laughing and saying: "This time for that one."

According to Jaber bin Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: “I married a woman during the era of the messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then met the Prophet, peace be upon him, he said: O Jaber! Did you get married? I said: yes. He said: a virgin or a matron? I said: a matron. He said: wouldn’t it better if she were a virgin, so that you play with her?”

That's not all. The messenger of Allah connected the believer's kindness to his household with his family with the strength or weakness of faith. He instructed that it should be a beneficent trait by which one worships Allah (the Almighty), so he said: "The most complete in faith amongst the believers is the kindest and best in conduct towards his wife."

Nobody can deny the kind of profound effect on families and communities this kind of treatment can have. Likewise, this is clear indication of the high status that distinguished the woman in the consideration of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
