Episode 15: The woman in the social life of Prophet Mohammed peace and blessing be upon him 5/7

5- Obedience of Allah

The humanistic relationship, which the messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) laid its foundations between the man and the woman in worldly issues, remains incomplete and unstable if it were devoid of remembrance of Allah and His worship. Because, worship is the ultimate purpose for which the human being was created. His existence on this earth was constantly linked to fulfilling this obligation. No doubt, the messenger of Allah insisted that the strength of their relationship depends on their obedience to Allah. Thus, the messenger of Allah was the model to his wives in that, following the command of his Lord, who said: “Enjoin prayer on your people, and be constant therein. We ask you not to provide sustenance: We provide it for you. But the (fruit of) the Hereafter is for righteousness." [Surah Ta Ha, 132].

And also said: "O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire whereof the fuel is men and stones, over which are set angels strong, severe, who resist not Allah in that which He commands them, but do that which they are commanded." [Surah At-Tahrim, 6]

So the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was a practical example throughout his life with the way he dealt with his wives. He used to instruct them to fulfill all their religious obligations, and encourage them to voluntary pray during the day and at night prayers. He was keen to teach them even the finer points of their religion. So that he would not leave a gap for Satan to enter his life with his wives. And this is the seal of protection, which keeps families firm together. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: "The prophet used to pray while I am sleeping, facing the other way on his bed. When he reached his Witr prayer, he would wake me up to pray it as well."

Competition in good deeds was from the most important priorities in the household of the Prophet. All of them in good nature would compete in prayer and follow the commandments of Allah, while encouraging each other to do so. This way all of them achieve blessings and reward. The Prophet (peace be upon him) reminds the nation concerning the extent of the importance of establishing remembrance of Allah between couples in the household, when he said: "May Allah have mercy upon the man who got up and prayed at night, and then woke his wife up, who then prayed. If she refused, he would sprinkle water in her face. And may Allah have mercy upon the women who got up and prayed at night, and then woke her husband up, who then prayed. If he refused, she would sprinkle water in his face."

This is an honor for the woman, since she participates with her husband in worship and competes with him. She does so to achieve reward from her Lord and to attain success with His pleasure and His paradise. And this is the exact opposite of what people used to believe during the pagan era. That's because they believed she never had any religious responsibilities as they claimed she lacked religious competency.
