Episode 2: Marriage is a universal norm
In the name of Allah
the most Gracious, the most Merciful
Indeed, from the universal norms of Allah is that he made of
everything pairs, two and two, each one completes the other and dwells in
tranquillity with the other. The Almighty said: (And of everything we have
created in pairs that you may reflect) (1).
So, from plants (He created) pairs. The Almighty said: (and
of all fruits he placed therein pairs, two and two) (2), and said:
(He has sent down water from the sky and thereby we have brought forth diverse
kinds of vegetation) (3).
And from animals (He created) pairs. The Almighty said: (and
of the cattle also pairs, whereby He multiplies you) (4), and He
said: (We said: load therein two of every kind, a pair) (5).
And, from human beings a pair; the Almighty said: (He creates the two spouses,
the male and the female) (6), and He said: (Allah created you from
dust, and then from a little fluid, and then he made you pairs) (7).
And made it, Almighty, of the traditions of prophets and
messengers the best of all creatures. He, the Almighty, said: (We sent
messengers before you, and we appointed for them wives and offspring) (8).
In the Statement, he, peace and blessing be upon him, said:
(These four are of the traditions of the Messengers: shyness, wearing perfume,
wedlock and brushing the teeth with Siwak) (9).
The Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, refuted those
who abstained from marriage out of devotion to worship and monasticism, he said:
By Allah! I’m the most fearful of you to Allah and most pious to Him, but I fast
and break my fast, I stand in prayer and I sleep, and marry women, so whoever
turns away from my Tradition, is not from me (10).
For this reason, scholars made it desirable for the married
person to intend by his marriage the realization of the Sunnah and the
safeguarding of his religion and his honor. Therefore, do not break brother/
sister from the norms of this wide universe by shunning marriage while able to,
may Allah help us and you.

(9) Narrated by At-Tirmidhi, Book of Marriage, Chapter: What
came on the virtues of marriage, Statement 1086-2/272, and Sa’eed bin Mansoor in
his Sunan, Book of Marriage, Chapter: Making Marriage Desirable, Statement
503-1/141, and Ahmad 5/421. The Statement in weak due to the weakness of one of
its narrators, who is Al-Hajjaj bin Artat or ‘Artat, with it being Mudallas
(weak, with a chain of “forged” transmitters) and the ignorance of one of its
narrators. The Statement does have testimonials, but weak ones. Al Albani, may
Allah have mercy on him, classed the Statement as weak in Irwa’ Al-Ghaleel,
Statement 75-/116-199.
(10) Agreed upon. Narrated by Bukhari Stetement 5063-9/104
with Fat’h Al-Baari, and Muslim 9/175 with the Explanation of An-Nawawi.
