Statement: « Allah did not cause those who suffered malformations to have progeny» (*). This Statement was narrated by Abdullah bin Mas’ood, and was narrated according to Umm Salamah, Ibn Omar, and was narrated according to Ibn Abbas as Mawquf.
1 – As to the Statement of Ibn Mas’ood - after he had mentioned the supplication of Umm Habibah, for Allah enable her to derive benefits from her husband, the Messenger of Allah, her father and her brother, then the instructions of the Prophet, peace be upon him, to her – he said: and apes were mentioned in his presence- Mus’ar said, and I suppose he said: The swine were the result of malformations (of the human beings) - he said: «Verily, Allah did not cause the race of those who suffered malformations to reproduce or they were not survived by young ones; apes and swine had been in existence even before that» (1). Narrated by Muslim - singled out from the six - (2), Ahmad (3), Ibn Abu ‘Aasim (4), Abu Ya’la (5) and At-Tahhawi (6), all of them by way of Mus’ar, and the wording is his.
It was also narrated by Muslim, Ahmad (7), At-Tabari (8), At-Tahhawi and Al-Baghawi (9), all of them by way of Sufyan Ath-Thawri.
Both of them are according to ‘Alqamah bin Marthad according to Al-Mughirah bin Abdullah Al-Yashkari, according to Al-Ma'roor bin Sweed, according to him. The wording of Sufyan: "A man said: O Messenger of Allah, apes and swine, are they among those who suffered malformations? Thereupon the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: «Verily, Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, did not destroy a people or did not torment a people, and let their race grow. Apes and swine had been even before that».
Al-Mas’oudi differed with them, he narrated it according to ‘Alqamah bin Marthad, according to Al-Mustawrid bin Ahnaf, according to Ibn Mas’ood, as Mawquf, with similar wording. Narrated by At-Tahawi (10) by way of Abu Dawood At-Tayaalisi, according to him, by him.
Ad-Daraqotni Dar said: "They are in Him" (11), meaning Al-Mas’oudi, who is Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah bin ‘Otbah, (truthful, mixed before his death, and his standard is: that whoever heard from him in Baghdad, it was after mixing) (12). And Abu Dawood At-Tayaalisi is one of those who narrated according to him after mixing (13). And Leith ibn Abu Saleem also differed with them, so he narrated it according to ‘Alqamah bin Marthad, according to Al-Ma'roor ibn Sweed, according to the mother of the believers Umm Salamah, she said: I asked the Messenger of Allah, about those who were malformed, would they have had descendants? He said: «no one had ever been malformed and still had descendants or been survived by young ones».
Narrated by Abu Ya’la (14) - and the wording is his - and At-Tahhawi (15) and At-Tabaraani (16), all of them by way of Leith ibn Abu Saleem, by him.And Leith ibn Abu Saleem (trustworthy, mixed a lot, his narration of Hadith did not distinguished, he was dropped) (17), and apparently this is of his mixing, for the league of trustworthy made it from the Statements of Ibn Mas’ood, as stated previously.
The Statement has another way according to Ibn Mas’ood: Narrated by At-Tayaalisi (18), Ahmad (19), At-Tahhawi (20) and At-Tabaraani (21) all of them following leads, according to Dawud bin Abul-Furaat according to Mohammed ibn Zayd Al-‘Abdi, according to Abul A’ayun Al-‘Abdi, according to Ibn Mas’ood, he said: We asked the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, about the apes and the swine, whether they were of the descendants of the Jews? He said: «...» and related it with a similar wording.
In its attribution: Abul A’ayun Al-‘Abdi, and Ibn Ma’een weakened it, and Abu Haatim said: unknown, and Ibn Hibbaan said: he used to come up with acceptable things, it is not permissible to draw reasoning from him (22). And Mohammed bin Zayd Al-‘Abdi (acceptable) (23).
2 -As to the Statement of Umm Salamah, it has been previously explained in the mention of the ways of the Statement of Ibn Mas’ood.
3 -While the Statement of Ibn Umar, it has been narrated by At-Tabaraani in- Al-Awsat - (24), Ibn Hibbaan (25), Abu Na’eem (26) with a similar wording. In its attribution: Maslamah bin Ali Al-Khushani, (dropped) (27) and was troubled in its attribution.
4- As for the Statement of Ibn Abbas, he said: «no malformed (being) ever survived more than three days, and did not eat, did not drink and did not reproduce...», so At-Tabari narrated it (28) and mentioned the trouble with it, which is: the weakness and the discontinuity (of the chain of narration).
As to its weakness, it is because Bish bin ‘Imarah (29) is (weak) (30).
While its discontinuity, it is because its narrator according to Ibn Abbas is Adh-Dhahhaak bin Muzaahim, in whom Ibn Hibbaan said: "He met a group of followers, and did not talk verbally to anyone from the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and whoever alleged that he met Ibn Abbas, he was under false pretense" (31). End of quote.
