3- The example of giving charity in the cause of Allah: This example is one of the most beautiful examples, and was mentioned in the Hadith with wonderful style which reads as follows:
"I command you with charity, and the likeness of that is like a man captured by enemy who tied his hands to his neck and advanced him to be killed. Thereupon, he said: is there something I can do to ransom my life from you? He kept on ransoming himself from them by little and much until he could ransom himself." Indeed, charity turns away afflictions and the one who gives charity frequently to the poor and the needy shall benefit from his charity in this world as well as in the Hereafter. In the time of dire need when a person needs the help of others, charity comes to save him out of afflictions and calamities. There is a Hadith reported with that meaning at At-Tirmidhy; Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Indeed, charity puts off the wrath of Allah and protects against the bad death.” (1)
Ibn Al Qayyim (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) said: "The proof to these words is: they are really effective and the second proof is: they really happen. Charity has an amazing effect in pushing away all kinds of afflictions even if it is given by a dissolute person, an oppressor, or even by a disbeliever because Allah (may He be Exalted) pushes away with it different kinds of afflictions. This is a well-known matter to all the people and all the people admit it because they have tried it.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave a sufficient example of charity with a person who was turned over to the enemy to cut off his neck, but he ransomed himself with money. Likewise, charity protects a person from the torment of Allah (Glory be to Him) because his sins and mistakes entail his destruction, but charity comes to save him from the torment. (2)
It was reported in another Hadith: “Fasting is a screen (from Hell) and charity puts off (the fire of) sins as water puts off fire.” (3)
4- The example of Dhikr (remembrance of Allah): It was mentioned in the Hadith: “I command you with mentioning Allah (Glory be to Him) frequently; the likeness of that is like a man after whom the enemy were running, but he entered a fortified fort to save himself. A servant is more secure from Satan when he mentions the name of Allah (Glory be to Him).”
Dhikr has many benefits, and Imam Ibn Al Qayyim (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) mentioned in his book: “Al Wabil As-Sayyib min Al Kalim At-Tayyib” more than seventy benefits. He said: "Dhikr contains about one hundred benefits," of which protection against the cursed Satan. He said about the explanation of the Hadith: "If there is no other benefit for Dhikr but this quality, it is proper for a person not to stop mentioning Allah (may He be Exalted). His tongue should be busy with Dhikr because he will not protect himself from his enemy (i.e., Satan) except with Dhikr. Moreover, Satan does not attack man except when he is away from Allah. It watches him all the time and when a person forgets or stops mentioning Allah, it insinuates to him and leads him astray. However, when a person mentions the name of Allah, Satan becomes so tiny like a fly, therefore, it was called the hidden whisperer i.e., it casts bad thoughts and ideas in the hearts, but when a person mentions Allah (may He be Exalted), it walks away.” (4)
For that reason, Allah (may He be Glorified and Exalted) commanded us to mention Him frequently; Allah (May He be Exalted) says: "O you who believe! Remember Allâh with much remembrance. * And glorify His Praises morning and afternoon [the early morning (Fajr) and ‘Asr prayers]." [Surat Al Ahzab: 41-42]. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave an example for the one who remembers Allah and the one who does not remember Allah with the living and the dead. Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The example of the one who celebrates the Praises of his Lord (Allah) in comparison to the one who does not celebrate the Praises of his Lord, is that of a living creature compared to a dead one." (5).
