Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "If there was a river at the door of anyone of you and he took a bath in it five times a day would you notice any dirt on him?" They said: "Not a trace of dirt would be left." The Prophet (peace be upon him) added: "That is the example of the five prayers with which Allah blots out (annuls) evil deeds." (1)
Explanation of the Hadith:
Ibn Al `Araby said: The similarity is: As a person gets dirty by tangible dirt in his body and clothes then gets pure by water, the five daily Salahs purify a person from dirt until they leave him clean and pure of any sin and dirt. (2)
Lessons gained from the Hadith:
1- The excellence of Salah and its effect in expiating sins and evil deeds.
2- A Muslim should be keen to observe this great religious duty, and be keen to do it as should by fulfilling its conditions, pillars, obligations, and as much as he can of its desirable Sunan so as to feel their great impact on cleaning and purifying a person from sins and evil deeds.
3- A Muslim should be keen to do righteous deeds so as to expiate his sins.
