3- Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The similitude of mine and that of my nation is that of a person who lit fire and there began to fall into it insects and moths. And I am there to hold you back, but you plunge into it." (1)

Explanation of vocabulary (2)

(hold you back) from your waist. This phrase is a metaphor denoting the Prophet's keenness to stop his nation from committing sins which lead them to Hell Fire.

(you plunge into it) fall into difficult matters without making sure.

Explanation of the Hadith: (3)

An-Nawawy said: The meaning of the Hadith is that he (peace be upon him) likened those who disobey him with moths, and their fall in the Hell Fire with the fall of moths into the fire of the world and their keenness to fall into it despite his keenness to stop them. The common factor is following the whims, the weakness of distinction, and the eagerness of each group to destroy itself. Judge Abu Bakr ibn Al `Araby said: This Hadith is full of meanings, and the meaning is: People do not approach fire with the intention of destroying themselves, but they approach it with the intention of benefit and following the desires such as moths which approach fire not to destroy themselves but they admire its light.

Lessons gained from the Hadith:

1- Explanation of the conditions of people and their eagerness to the world, following of desires, and committing sins which will be a cause in falling into Hell in the Hereafter.

2- The world has a brightness that fascinates the short-sightedness people who are being tricked and engaged with the world's adornment and desires from the cause of their creation such as worshipping Allah, following His Commands and avoiding His Prohibitions, so they expose themselves to the wrath of Allah and His current or deferred punishment.

3- Ibn Hajar said: The Hadith refers to the Compassion, mercy, and the eagerness of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to the safety and salvation of his nation. Allah (may He be Exalted) says: "Verily, there has come to you a Messenger (Muhammad peace be upon him) from amongst yourselves (i.e. whom you know well). It grieves him that you should receive any injury or difficulty. He (Muhammad peace be upon him) is anxious over you (to be rightly guided, to repent to Allâh, and beg Him to pardon and forgive your sins in order that you may enter Paradise and be saved from the punishment of the Hell-fire); for the believers (he peace be upon him is) full of pity, kind, and merciful." [Surat At-Tawbah: 128]. (4)
