Episode 11: Saying Subhana Allah wa bihamdih one hundred times

From the magnificent invocations prescribed for a Muslim to say during the night and evening: 'Glorified is Allah and to Him belongs all praise' one hundred times, based on the authentic Statement narrated in Sahih Muslim that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "whoever says 'Glorified is Allah and to Him belongs all praise' one hundred times in the morning and evening, nobody will come on the Day of Resurrection with better than him, except the one who says the same or adds more'.

This magnificent invocation combines glorification with praise. Glorification is removing Allah from all attributes of deficiency and imperfection, and praise is ascertaining perfection to Him, the Almighty. Whereas, specifying one hundred times has wisdom, for which the Legislator willed, its facet has been kept hidden from us.

And among the invocations of the two ends of the day:

That which was mentioned in the Statement of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, and authenticated in the Sunan of At-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawood and others, and graded as good by Al-Albani- may Allah rest his soul-, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach his companions, saying: ‘When one of you reaches morning, he should say:

‘O Allah, by Your leave we have reached the morning and by Your leave we have reached the evening, by Your leave we live and die and unto You is our resurrection. And when reaching evening, one should say: ‘O Allah, by Your leave we have reached the evening and by Your leave we have reached the morning, by Your leave we live and die and unto You is our return.’

This is a great prophetic supplication and blessed invocation, for a Muslim to observe every morning and evening. He should also ponder over their noble meanings. How can this not be when it has contained reminds for the Muslim of the greatness of Allah's virtue upon him? Likewise, it reminds of His tremendous bounty and generosity. A human’s sleeping and awakening, moving and stillness, standing and sitting, etc... all only happen with the permission of Allah (Owner of  Might and Majesty). So, whatever Allah wills happens, and that which He does not will does not happen, and there is neither might nor strength, except with Allah the Magnificent.
