At-Tirmidhy and Ibn Majah reported on the authority of `A'ishah, the Mother of believers, (may Allah be pleased with her) who said: "O Messenger of Allah, if I realize Laylat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it? He (peace be upon him) replied: You should supplicate with: Allahumma innaka `Afuwwun, tuhibbul-`Afwa, fa`fu `Anni (O Allah, You are the Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me)." [Sunan At-Tirmidhy No. 3513 and Ibn Majah No. 3850, and Al Albany (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) graded it as authentic in Sahih Ibn Majah No. 3105].
This blessed and great invocation is so profound and of great benefit and impact. Moreover, it is suitable for that night, for it is the night during which every matter is decreed and the yearly actions of people are written. So, whoever is granted pardon and forgiveness that night has succeeded and won and whoever is given pardon that night shall be forgiven in the world as well as the Hereafter.
Al Bukhari reported in Al Adab Al Mufrad and At-Tirmidhy in his Sunan on the authority of Al `Abbas ibn `Abdul-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I may ask (thereby) Allah, the Mighty, the Glorious. He said: Ask Him for safety. I waited for a few days and then went to him and asked him: O Messenger of Allah, teach me something whereby I Might ask Allah. He said: O `Abbas! O uncle of Allah's Messenger, ask for security in this world and the next." [Al Adab Al Mufrad No. 726 and Sunan At-Tirmidhy No. 3514, and Al Albany (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) graded it as authentic in Sahih Al Adab No. 558].
Al Bukhari reported in Al Adab Al Mufrad and At-Tirmidhy in his Sunan on the authority of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: "A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, what is the best supplication? He answered: Asking Allah for forgiveness and well-being in this world and the Next world. Then he came to him the following day and asked: O Prophet of Allah, what is the best supplication? He answered: Asking Allah for forgiveness and well-being in this world and the Next world. When you are given well-being in this world and the Next, then you have achieved success." [Al Adab Al Mufrad No. 637 and Sunan At-Tirmidhy No. 3512, and Al Albany (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) graded it as authentic in Sahih Al Adab Al Mufrad No. 495].
Al Bukhari reported in Al Adab Al Mufrad on the authority of Awsat ibn Isma`il who said: I heard Abu As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) after the death of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood up in the first year then Abu Bakr cried. Then he said: Hold firm with truthfulness, for it is correlated with goodness in Paradise. And beware of laying, for it is correlated with lewdness in Hell-Fire, and ask Allah for well-being because nothing was given after certitude better than well-being. Do not cut ties together, and do not desert (cut your relation with) one another, and do not hate one another; and O Allah's worshipers! Be brothers (as Allah has ordered you!")" [Al Adab Al Mufrad No. 724, and Al Albany (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) graded it as authentic in Sahih Al Adab No. 557].
Therefore, it is better for a Muslim to invoke Allah frequently with that blessed invocation at every time, particularly on Laylat-ul-Qadr (the Night of Decree) during which every matter is decreed by the will of the All Wise. A Muslim should know that Allah (may He be Glorified and Exalted) is forgiving and love forgiveness and pardon. He says: "And He it is Who accepts repentance from His slaves, and forgives sins, and He knows what you do." [Surat Ash-Shura: 25].
Allah is known by forgiveness and pardon and everyone is in dire need to His Forgiveness and Pardon and no one can dispense with His Forgiveness and Pardon.
So, we ask Allah (Glory be to Him) to include us with pardon, grant us His Mercy and Forgiveness, use us in obeying Him, and guide us to the Straight Way.
