Episode 16: Asking Allah for pardon and well-being 2/2

His statement: "O Allah, preserve me from ahead of me and from behind and on my right and on my left and from above, and I take refuge with You lest I be taken up from underneath me’, It signifies asking Allah protection from destructive evils that approach humans from all six directions. It's possible for evil and tribulations to appear from any direction. The servant doesn't know from which direction tribulation may suddenly occur and strike him. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Allah to protect him from all directions. Likewise, the evil of Satan is one that a human needs protection from. Indeed, devils are always plotting against humans. They may come from all directions to bring humans into tribulations and pull them into destruction. They will do whatever they can in order to keep humans away from the straight path. This is exactly the claim of Satan (the outcast) which Allah informed about in the Qur'an saying: "Then I shall come upon them from before them and from behind them and from their right hands and from their left hands; and you will not find most of them thankful".

Therefore, the servant of Allah is in need of protection from this enemy and his plots. So this supplication is the fortification for the servant from Satan's evil, whatever direction it comes from, since the servant will be under Allah's protection and care.

His statement: 'and I take refuge with You lest I be taken up from underneath me.’ This signifies the severity of the dangers that pose a threat to a human being from underneath. Being swallowed up by the earth is but only one of the punishments Allah gives to those deserving so on earth. Not only do they refuse to establish the commandments of Allah, but they also spread corruption on earth and are disobedient. So they are punished by way of earthquakes or being engulfed into the depths of the earth. That is a suitable reward for their disobedience:  "So We took each one in his sin; of them was he on whom We sent a hurricane, and of them was he who was overtaken by the (Awful) Cry, and of them was he whom We caused the earth to swallow, and of them was he whom We drowned. It was not for Allah to wrong them, but they wronged themselves".

One of the great invocations worthy of the Muslim to observe every morning and evening, that which was documented in the Musnad of Imam Ahmad and authenticated by Al-Albani –may Allah have mercy on him– from the Statement of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon be him) said: ‘Whoever says in the morning: ‘None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise and He is over all things omnipotent’ ten times, has indeed gained one hundred good deeds, and one hundred bad deeds have been wiped out from his account, and was protected that day until the evening. And whoever said it in the evening, his reward was likewise”.
