Adhkar (invocations and Remembrances said at certain times on a regular basis) that were reported in Sahih Muslim from the authority of Juwayriyah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) came out from (her room) in the morning as she was busy in observing her Dawn Prayer in her place of worship. He came back in the forenoon and she was still sitting there. He said: He (the Prophet) said to her: You have been in the same seat since I left you. She said: yes; Thereupon the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: I recited four words three times after I left you and if these are to be weighed against what you have recited since morning these would outweigh them and (these words) are: "Glory be Allah and praise is due to Him as the number of His creation, as the pleasure of His Self, as the weight of His Throne and as the ink (used in recording) words (for His Praise)." This is a great Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) to which the Prophet (peace be upon him) directed and explained that it contains a double reward more than the ordinary Dhikr in which a person says: (Glory be to Allah).
The meaning is that Allah (Glory be to Him) deserves praise by that amount and number such as the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "Our Lord, to You is all praise which would fill the heavens and the earth, and that in between and would fill anything you will." The meaning is not the action of glorification itself because the action of a person is limited, but the meaning is that the glorification and praises that the Lord deserves is much more than a person's glorification which is meant for glorifying the status of Allah. Ibn Al Qayyim (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) said in the explanation of this Hadith and the great benefits it contains: "This is called the double reward which deserves more reward than the single Dhikr because it comes as a result of knowing and understanding the meaning of this Dhikr. The saying of the one who remembers Allah: "Glory be Allah and praise is due to Him as the number of His creation" contains a statement which is that: what the Lord deserves is as the number of all creatures whether those creatures were created or shall be created in the future. Thus was the great number of glorification and praising which neither the counters can count nor the recorders can record. It is also stated that if there were a number more than the number of things which He created or will be created, He would have mentioned it because the number of creatures will never end. Likewise, Allah's Saying: "as the pleasure of His Self" which contains two great matters:
1- The meaning would be a glorification that equals the pleasure of His Self (Glory be to Him). No doubt that the pleasure of Allah's Self is something endless and cannot be described.
2- Glorification is a praise to Allah (Glory be to Him) which contains exaltation and glorification. If the descriptions of His Perfectness are endless, but they are greater and more exalted, praise and glorification will be endless too. The same goes for: "As the weight of His Throne" which contains affirmation to the existence of Allah's Throne, ascribing it to the Lord (Glory be to Him), and confirming that it is the heaviest of all creatures because if there is something heavier than it, praise would have been weighed by it. Therefore, the first doubling will be for number and quantity, the second is for description and quality, and the third is for the greatness, heaviness, and the great amount. Likewise his saying: "And as the ink (used in recording) words (for His Praise)." This includes the three parts because "As the ink (used in recording) words (for His Praise)" has no end to its amount, quality, and number. Allah (may He be Exalted) says: "Say (O Muhammad peace be upon him to mankind): "If the sea were ink for (writing) the Words of my Lord, surely, the sea would be exhausted before the Words of my Lord would be finished, even if We brought (another sea) like it for its aid."
Scholars drew the attention to the importance of knowing the meanings of these words and calling to mind their indications. The more a person knows these meanings the more reward he shall get and this Dhikr will be more effective. If a person says this Dhikr or other kinds of Dhikr without recalling their meanings or indications, the effect of the Dhikr will be weak. May Allah grant us success for He is the One who provides aid and the One who guides to the Straight Way.
