Fourth, of the benefits which the previous Hadiths included is what should a person do when he sees something pleasant or bad as follows:
A- A person should know that Satan wants to cast sadness to him and put him in the middle of concerns, worries, and distress, so he should not pay attention to the plots of Satan and keep going on his way.
B- A person should seek refuge with Allah from the evil of these nightmares or bad dreams and from the evils of the cursed Satan; and the meaning of seeking refuge is to resort to Allah and ask Him for help. Allah says: "And whoever holds firmly to Allâh, (i.e. follows Islâm - Allâh's Religion, and practically obeys all that Allâh has ordered), then he is indeed guided to a Right Path." [Surat Al `Imran: 101].
C- A person should spit three times at his left hand side; that is because Satan comes from the left side to be near the heart and insinuate or cast thoughts inside his heart. And Allah knows best!
D- A person should turn over from the side on which he had been lying, and it was said that the wisdom is to seek another good condition.
E- A person should not narrate the bad dreams.
It was reported in Sahih Muslim from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger Allah, I have seen in the state of sleep as if my head had been cut off. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) laughed and said: When the satan plays with any one of you in the state of steep, he should not narrate it to the people." [Sahih Muslim No. (2268)].
In another narration, he said: "A bedouin came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: O Messenger Allah, I saw in the state of steep as if my head had been cut off and I had been moving on haltingly after it. Thereupon, Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said to that bedouin: Do not narrate to the people the manipulation of Satan with you in your sleep." [Sahih Muslim No. (2268)].
The Prophet (peace be upon him) had informed the people that the person who abides by the Hadith shall not be harmed by bad dreams, but doing these acts will protect him against bad dreams and the evils of Satan by the will of Allah.
Moreover, a person should be pious, fear Allah, keep to the obedience of Allah, and away from sins so as to be guarded by the protection of Allah and His Care.
Ibn Sirin (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) said: "Fear Allah in wakefulness and do not pay attention to what you see in sleep."
Allah is the Only One sought for help, upon Him we depend, and there is no might nor strength save in Allah the Great.
