The seventh reason is: Sincere repentance to Allah of the sins which bring all these enemies. Allah (Glory be to Him) says: "And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned." [Surat Ash-Shura: 30]. Those enemies only harm a person because of his sins whether he knows these sins or not; and the number of his sins which he knows is much bigger than the sins which he does not know, and the number of the sins which he forgets is double the number of the sins he recalls. It was reported in the famous invocation: "Allahumma inny A`udhu Bika An Ushrika bika Shay’an A`lamuh wa Astaghfiruka Lima La A`lamuh [O Allah, I seek refuge in You from associating someone with You in worship while I know and I seek Your Pardon for what I do not know]." [Reported bu Al Bukhari in Al Adab Al Mufrad, No: 719 from the Hadith of Mi`qal ibn Yasar, and Al Albany (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) graded it as authentic in Sahih Al Adab, No: 551].

A person is in dire need for seeking forgiveness for the sins he does not know more than the sins he knows because no harm inflicts man but because of sins. There is nothing in the world worse than sins and its consequences, so when a person avoids sins, he shall avoid their consequences too. Nothing is more useful for a person than sincere repentance from sins which are the main causes for the dominance of his enemy over him.

The eighth reason is: Giving charity and showing benevolence as possible because that will have an amazing effect in warding off affliction, envy, and the evil of a person because evil and envy cannot harm a benevolent and if harm hits him, he shall be treated nicely and easily, and shall find a good consequence. Let it be known that charity and benevolence are part of gratitude and gratitude is the guard of blessings against removal.

The ninth reason is: To extinguish the fire of an envious, an oppressor, and the one who harms others by showing benevolence to them; whenever a person is filled by harm, evil, oppression, and envy, you should show more benevolence, advice, and pity for him. Allah (Glory be to Him) says: "The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e. Allâh orders the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly) then verily he, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend. * But none is granted it (the above quality) except those who are patient - and none is granted it except the owner of the great portion (of happiness in the Hereafter i.e., Paradise and of a high moral character) in this world." [Surat Fussilat: 34 - 35]. Ponder over the condition of the Prophet when his people beat him until blood was shedding from his body, then he kept invoking his Lord saying: "O Allah, forgive my people for they do not know." [Sahih Al Bukhari, No. 3477 and Sahih Muslim, No: 1792].

The tenth reason is: Showing sincere monotheism, and thinking in the Causer of all causes, the Exalted in Might, the All Wise, and knowing that nothing can harm or benefit except by the will of Allah. Allah (Glory be to Him) says: "And if Allâh touches you with harm, there is none who can remove it but He, and if He intends any good for you, there is none who can repel His Favor." [Surat Sad: 107]. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to `Abdullah ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): "And remember that if all the people gather to benefit you, they will not be able to benefit you except that which Allah had foreordained (for you); and if all of them gather to do harm to you, they will not be able to afflict you with anything other than that which Allah had pre-destined against you." [Sunan At-Tirmidhy, No. 2516, and Al Albany (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) graded it as authentic in Sahih Al Jami`, No. 7957].

If a person shows sincere monotheism, the fear of anything else will get out of his heart and his enemy shall be more trivial than to be feared, and in such position a person only fears Allah and believes that thinking about his enemy is part of poor monotheism. If a person shows sincere monotheism, he shall only busy himself with thinking in Allah who will protect and defend him because Allah defends those who believe. So, if he is a believer, Allah shall defend him according to the power of his faith and when his faith is perfect, the defense will be more perfect. Some of the Pious Predecessors said: "Whoever approaches Allah in one piece, Allah shall approach him in one piece and whoever turns away from Allah, Allah will turn away from him, but if a person sometimes comes closer and sometimes turns away, Allah will be likewise. Monotheism is the immune fort of Allah and whoever enters it will be secure. Some of the Pious Predecessors said: "Whoever fears Allah everything shall fear him and whoever does not fear Allah, Allah will make him fear everything."

These are ten reasons by which the evil of an envier and sorcerer will be removed. [See Bada'i` Al Fawa'id of Ibn Al Qayyim 2/238 - 246].

We ask Allah to protect us and all Muslims from evils, for He is All-Hearing, All-Responding.
