He is Abu `Abdullah Muhammad ibn Isma`il ibn Ibrahim ibn Al Mughirah Al Ju`fy Al Bukhari.

It was called: Al Ju`fy because Al Mughirah -his grandfather- was magus and embraced Islam at the hand of Yaman Al Bukhari who was Al Ju`fy the governer of Bukhara, so he was ascribed to him because he embraced Islam at his hand.

And Al Ju`fy was the father of a tribe from Yemen, who was Ju`fy ibn Sa`d Al `Ashirah ibn Madhhij.

He was born on Friday, 13 Shawwal, 194 AH and died on the Eid Night, 256 AH and his age was 62 years minus thirteen days without begetting a child.

Al Bukhari -the master of Hadith science- traveled to seek knowledge from all scholars all over the world, wrote books in Khurasan, Iraq and Hejaz, the Levant and Egypt, and took Hadiths from grand sheikhs, such as: Makky ibn Ibrahim Al Balkhy, `Abdany ibn `Uthman Al Marwaziy, `Ubaydullah ibn Musa Al `Absy, Abu `Asim Ash-Shaybany, Muhammad ibn `Abdullah Al Ansary, Muhammad ibn Yusuf Al Firyaby, Abu Nu`aym Al Fadl Ibn Dukayn, Ali ibn Al Madiny, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Yahya ibn Ma`in , Isma`il ibn Abu Uways Al Madany, and others. Many people received Hadiths from him in every town he lectured.

Al Firabry said: 90.000 heard the book of Al Bukhari but no one reported it but me, and today none reports Sahih Al Bukhari but from his way. He corrected some issues to scholars when he was 11 years old after one year of seeking knowledge. Al Bukhari said: I wrote my Sahih from about 600.000 Hadiths and I never put a Hadith but after performing two Rak`ahs. Al Bukhari came to Baghdad and the Hadith scholars heard about him, so they gathered and deliberately mixed one hundred Hadiths with its texts and chain of transmission and gave them to ten people and commanded them to attend the session of Al Bukhari to test him. When the session started, one of them asked him about one of the mixed Hadiths and Al Bukhari said: I do not know it. Another asked him about a Hadith, and Al Bukhari said: I do not know it until the ten Hadiths of each person finished and Al Bukhari kept saying: I do not know it. When he said that, the scholars of Hadiths knew that he was knowledgeable, but ordinary people did not know that.

When the ten men finished, he looked to the first of them and said: As for your first Hadith, it is as such and such and the second is such and such until he finished the ten, attributing each Hadith to its original chain of transmission. Then he did the same with the rest until the people knew that he was knowledgeable and admitted his knowledge.
