Khutbah Title: Fear from Islam, Why?

Fear Allaah The Almighty as He should be feared and  grasp the most trustworthy handhold of Islam for Allaah The Almighty says (what means): {O you who have believed, fear Allaah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].} [Aal-‘Imraan: 102]

Fear Allaah The Almighty and seek His help and be pious to Allaah with His true piety. The one who fears Allaah The Almighty is not the one whose eyes shed tears; but rather, he is the one who restrains his desires from what is prohibited while he is able to do them, for Allaah The Almighty says (what means): {But for he who has feared the position of his Lord are two gardens.} [Ar-Rahmaan: 46]

O servants of Allaah, Ka‘b ibn Maalik, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated in the story of the Second Pledge of Al-‘Aqabah, when the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, met secretly with the Ansaar to swear the oath of allegiance to him to support him, saying: “Al-Bara’ Ibn Ma‘roor, may Allaah be pleased with him, was the first who caught the hand of the Messenger of Allaah, peace and blessing be upon him, and then people followed him. When we had all sworn the oath of allegiance to the Messenger of Allaah, peace and blessing be upon him. Satan shouted from the top of ‘Al-Aqabah in the most piercing voice I have ever heard: “People of the stations [sacrificial places] of Mina, do you want a blameworthy [a mocking reference to ‘Muhammad’, which translates to 'praiseworthy'] person and the apostates with him who have gathered together to wage war on you?” Upon this the Messenger of Allaah, peace and blessing be upon him, said: “What does the Enemy of Allaah say? This is the Azabb of Al-‘Aqabah, the son of the devil Azyab. Listen, Enemy of Allaah. By Allaah, I shall deal with you!” [Reported by Ahmad and others]

O People, this is the first shout to frighten people from Islam. It is made by one of the devils. In his announcement and shout, he declared that this early birth of the entity of Islam is just a form of gathering to wage war against people.

Throughout the centuries came later on, there were still humans who inherited this claim, promoted it and spread it, whether due to his ignorance or pretending to be ignorant. Fear from Islam and frightening people from it are still considered in the international decisions, international conferences and even mass media.

Politicians and mass media specialists insist on making Islam as an aggressive culture and that toleration is a pure western culture. However, if they fairly and impartially looked at the main elements and principles of Islam, they would find in the main elements and principles of Islam the most perfect values and virtues of justice and toleration.

This false allegation of Islamophobia has great bad effects on Muslims and others alike. That is because it destroys the bridges of trust and cooperation, demolishes the international relationships, prevents establishing interests among humans, enhances the roots of all enmities and all forms of terrorism, represents a threat and denial of the equal rights and discrimination on religious and racist bases, in addition to the vexations, violence and shackles of the personal freedom. Also, it distorts the truth that came from Allaah The Almighty.

The matter, due to this false claim of Islamophobia, got even worse i.e. it incites and promote religious hatred. Rather, some went on disdaining and violating the Islamic sacred symbols and violating the religious sanctities through disrespecting Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him, or scorning the Noble Quran, passing laws against Hijaab (headscarf) and Niqaab  of women, publishing the defaming cartoon drawing in newspaper and mass media to offend Muslims, and even linking the pictures of Muslims and their appearance with the topics that talk about terrorism.

If someone or some people belong to Islam, then this will be a reason for the failure of all of his matters, loss of his rights and refusing his requests. Islamophobia is the reason behind the occupation of Palestine and the defense of the powerful states against the usurper for sixty years, justifying the continuous oppression, making the blood of the Palestinians cheap and confiscating their lands.

 Islamophobia is the reason behind the stances of doubt and enmity towards all attempts of the peoples to choose and determine the way of their life. One is really filled with sadness when he finds many people admire great toleration to idolatry religions; however, in the case of Islam, one usually find no rational reaction towards it; but rather, great negative emotions.

Also, helping suffering people may be delayed and saving the oppressed from the hands of the oppressors may be hesitated and this is for nothing but fearing that Islam may become strong again.

There is absolutely no doubt that the inherited culture play a role in forming this trend in others against Islam. This is promoted by the prejudiced mass media and the unfair policies. Even, the current UN Secretary General fairly said: “The phenomenon of Islamophobia in its essence is a religion-based resentment.” Actually, the same perspective was also expressed by the former Secretary General on the pulpit of the UN.

The wise people in the world have to deal fairly with this serious issue that brings about nothing but more conflicts and differences. Ignorance regarding Islam, its teachings and morals act as a main reason behind fearing it for really humans most often fear and hate what they do not understand.

O people, when we speak in this way, we do not try to mobilize armies or reopen wounds; but rather, to make many of the modest and free people in the world know how they have a wrong idea about the real facts of history and the context of events. Also, it is an attempt to make them know that they are standing in the wrong place that contradicts with what they feel pride of the values and examples that humans have achieved in the their millennium.

Why do people fear Islam?

Muslims were never responsible for the Two World Wars. 17 million civilians were killed in the first of them while in the second there were 50 million civilians; not to mention the huge number of the injured, gross destruction in environment and human capabilities.

Muslim have never occupied the world nor have they subjected its peoples to consume their valuable resources so that the occupier may enjoy them. Islam throughout its long history did not establish the Inquisitions to enforce people to change their religion. Moreover, throughout 15 centuries in which Islam spread his authority everywhere, there were still in its states those people who have different religions and beliefs and have shrines and churches that no one harmed them to the least. Also, there are still different minorities lives with Muslims on the lands of Islam till our present time.

You can also contemplate thoughtfully the international positions of today to see how the narrow interests overcome the principles and values, and how it is allowed to destroy the peoples because they are Muslims or because of fearing that Muslims may get their human rights in their countries not outside them. Really, it is a shameful situation that a people or a nation is destroyed or the world stop fulfilling its international and moral duties only because they are Muslims or Sunnis.

Are these the values? Are these the noble principles? And then Islam is accused of racial discrimination. This is really undermine the trust of the world i.e. the current international relationships are based on the national interests, not on morals, noble principles nor law if they go against interests. 

During the past hundred years in which organization used to care about humans and their rights and respect their resources and lands, history never recorded that a Muslim country invaded a non-Muslim country while the vice verse is totally and sorrowfully true at the international scene, even suspicion or an initial accusation is enough to wage war on a Muslim country and kill one million of its children, plunder its resources, destroy its capabilities, assault its history and civilization. After all of this, it becomes clear that the suspicion is incorrect. Then things pass without any apology or even a compensation.

International mass media have succeeded in making the uprising of the slaughtered person something savage and thus people became occupied with blaming the slaughtered and forgot the slaughterer.

Why do people fear Islam while it is calls humans to show mercy to one another? In this regard, Allaah The Almighty says (what means): {O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allaah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allaah is ever, over you, an Observer.} [An-Nisaa’: 1] 

Islam has put an end to social class, stratification, and racism while canceling such things in the most powerful and greatest western country at the present time took 50 years. Allaah The Almighty says (what means): {O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allaah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allaah is Knowing and Acquainted.} [Al-Hujuraat: 13]

Why do people fear Islam while the first human rights established were under his banner? Islam is the methodology that is the clearest and straightest in rejecting despotism, tyranny and oppression. This is not from the political aspects only, but also it considers them crimes that violate the essence of the right religion namely; worshiping Allaah The Almighty alone. Also, there is a clear methodology in the Noble Quran that rejects and shuns tyranny and oppression.

Why do people fear Islam while it maintained the rights of animal and thus it cannot be charged what is beyond its ability, it should not be let hungry, no separation between the sheep and its child, nor little young birds cannot be taken from their nests?

Why do people fear Islam? Do they fear it because it prevents them from enjoying life, its adornments and beauty? Absolutely not, because Islam denounce severely those who prohibit the adornments that Allaah The Almighty has created for people. In this regard, Allaah The Almighty says (what means): {Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of Allaah which He has produced for His servants and the good [lawful] things of provision?" Say, "They are for those who believe during the worldly life [but] exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection." Thus do We detail the verses for a people who know.} [Al-A‘raaf: 32]  

Islam has guaranteed the right of life, its enjoyment and joy for everyone, so let everybody fear not from Islam. 

Why do people fear Islam while it added a great achievement for civilizations in a short period of history. This also benefited greatly the nations that came afterwards?

Why it is repeatedly claimed that Islam promotes violence and fanaticism while toleration and the noble manners are one of the basic principles of it. Rather, mercy, kindness, forgiveness, pardoning, forgiveness, and patience are mentioned in the Noble Quran more than nine hundred times, in addition to what is reported from the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him? Is there any religion or a culture that gave such care to educating toleration? 

Toleration does not mean humiliation and disgrace, or submitting to oppression and surrendering to the oppressors. But rather, it is a balance about what Allaah The Almighty says (what means) in the Noble Quran: {And those who, when tyranny strikes them, they defend themselves. And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allaah. Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers.  And whoever avenges himself after having been wronged - those have not upon them any cause [for blame]. The cause is only against the ones who wrong the people and tyrannize upon the earth without right. Those will have a painful punishment. And whoever is patient and forgives - indeed, that is of the matters [requiring] determination.} [Ash-Shoora: 39-43]

Toleration in the meaning of righteousness and making good in return for evil is something required and recommended as long as it will not help in oppression or disappointing the oppressed or violating the principle of giving honor to Allaah The Almighty, His Messenger, peace and blessing be upon him, and the believers.

Islam has come with the good morals and with all details of the good conduct towards humans and environment. Moreover, it establishes harmony between the spiritual and materialistic aspects.

O servants of Allaah, the reality of making people fear from Islam is totally manufactured by some people who want to avert people from converting to it, speaking ill of its reality, values, rites and laws for mere political and racist objectives and lustful desires. Otherwise, if people were let free for their innate nature, independent consciousness and minds, if they were let alone without instigation nor mobilization against Islam, they would never fear it.

Islam is not in any way the religion of Arabs only and its goodness is not in any way limited to Muslims alone; but rather, it is a mercy for all people. Allaah The Almighty says (what means): {And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.} [Al-Anbiyaa’: 107]  

It is incumbent upon every Muslim to adhere firmly to the principles and values of Islam, explain to people its reality in theoretical and practical way, in a sincere invitation not a claim or pretentiousness.

Let everyone have no fear for Islam for Allaah The Almighty will surely maintain His religion; however, fear should be for the one who neglected or took it lightly, or avert people from adopting it and turned away. Allaah The Almighty says (what means): {So adhere to that which is revealed to you. Indeed, you are on a straight path.} [Az-Zukhruf: 43]

O Allaah, bless us with the Noble Quran, benefit us with its signs and wise remembrance. I say these words of mine and I ask Allaah The Almighty to forgive us all.

Finally, peace and blessing of Allaah be upon the chosen Prophet and selected Messenger; Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullaah.
