Creation of Adam, may Allah exalt his mention:

It was narrated on the authority of ‘Aa’ishah, may Allaah be pleased with her, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The angels were created from light, the jinn were created from smokeless fire and Adam was created from that which has been described to you." (1) This is the wording reported by Imam Muslim.

It was also narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah, may Allaah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Allah, The Most High, has removed from you the pride of the pre-Islamic period and its boasting in ancestors. One is only a pious believer or a miserable sinner. You are children of Adam, and Adam came from dust. Let the people cease to boast about their ancestors. They are merely fuel in Jahannam (Hellfire); or they will certainly be of less account with Allah than the beetle which rolls dung with its nose." (2).

The Mud from which Allah, The Almighty, created Adam, may Allah exalt his mention:

It was narrated on the authority of Abu Moosa Al-Ash‘ari, may Allaah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allaah created Adam from a handful that He, The Exalted, gathered from the entire earth, so the sons of Adam come like the earth. Some of them are red, some are white, some are black and some are in between. Some of them are easy, some of them are difficult, some are evil, some are good and some are in between." (3).

It was narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah, may Allaah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allah, The Almighty, created Adam from dust after He mixed the clay and left him for some time until it became sticky mud, after which Allah shaped him. After that Allah left him till it became like potter's clay. Iblees used to go past him saying 'You have been created for a great purpose.'

After that Allah, The Almighty, breathed His spirit into him. The first thing into which the spirit passed was his eye and then his nose. He sneezed. Allah, The Almighty, taught him to praise his Lord (saying Alhamdulillah after sneezing). Allah, The Almighty, said: "May your Lord have mercy upon you and then said to him: O Adam! Go to those angels and say to them: Assalamu Alaykum and see what they would say.' So Adam went and greeted them. They replied saying: "Peace be upon you and the mercy and blessings of Allah." Allah, The Almighty, said: "O Adam! This is your greeting and that of your offspring." Adam said, O my Lord, what is my offspring? Allah, The Almighty, said: "O Adam, choose one of my hands. Adam said, 'I choose the Right Hand of My Lord and both Hands of my Lord are blessed.' Then Allah spread out His Hand, and there were Adam and his offspring. But among them there were people who were the most illuminating of them. Adam was admired by one of them and thus he said: ‘O Lord! Who is this?’ Allah, The Almighty, said: ‘This is your son Daawood. He said: O Lord, how long did you make his age? Allah, The Almighty, said: "I wrote forty years for him.’ He said: ‘O Lord! Give him from my age till he gets a hundred years. Allah, The Almighty, did so and made witnesses over this. Then, when he is advanced in years, the Angel of death came to him, and Adam said to him: ‘Do not I still have forty years to live? He said: ‘Did not you give them to your son Daawood.’ So he rejected, and his offspring rejected, and he forgot, and his offspring forgot.” (4).

The first thing was created in Adam, may Allah exalt his mention:

It was narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah, may Allaah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Between the two sounds of the trumpet, there will be forty." Somebody asked Abu Hurairah, "Forty days?" But he refused to reply. Then he asked, "Forty months?" He refused to reply. Then he asked, "Forty years?" Again, he refused to reply. Abu Hurairah added. "Then (after this period) Allah, The Almighty, will send water from the sky and then the dead bodies will grow like vegetation grows."

In the wording reported by Imam Muslim, Abu Hurairah, may Allaah be pleased with him, added:"There is nothing of the human body that does not decay except one bone; that is the little bone at the end of the coccyx of which the human body will be recreated on the Day of Resurrection."  (5).

The phrase “the little bone at the end of the coccyx” refers to the small bone at the base of the spine, which is the end of the coccyx. This is the first part of a person that is created, and it is what will be left of him so that he will be created anew from it.

Decay of the bodies of people in their graves does not apply for all humans for it was stated in Al-Fat-h Ar-Rabaani li Tarteeb Musnad Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal Ash-Shaybaani (20/28): "Muslim scholars said, this is something general but about ten categories of prophet are excluded from it such as the Prophets, may Allah exalt their mention, martyrs, righteous, scholars who practice what they preach, the Mu'azzin who does not receive fees on reciting Athaan and the memorizer of Quran who acts upon its teachings according to what was stated in the Ahadeeth of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him."
