Amongst the lessons drawn from the Story of Abu Hurairah, may Allaah be pleased with him, with the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him (1):

- Recommendation of drinking while sitting.

- The servant of the people, if he takes the bowl around them, should take the bowl from everyone and give it himself to the other and not to let the man give it to his brother for this implies a kind of disdaining guest.

- It implies one of the great miracles and sings of the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, which is multiplying milk due to the blessing of the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him.

- Ibn Hajar, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: "It is permissible to drink or ear to one's fill, even if it reaches the maximum, acting upon the statement of Abu Hurairah, may Allaah be pleased with him: "I have no space for it (in my stomach)" and the approval of the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, regarding that unlike those who view its prohibition. Also, if this applies to the milk who has less density, then it will be more approved about the other foods that have much density. However, this may be special to that condition and thus cannot be generalized. At-Tirmithi reported after that Hadeeth of Abu Hurairah, may Allaah be pleased with him, a Marfoo‘ (traceable) Hadeeth narrated by Ibn ‘Umar, may Allaah be pleased with them: "The people with full stomach in this world will be the most hungered in the Hereafter." [Reported by At-Tirmithi who deemed it Hasan (good) Hadeeth] In the same effect, there is a Marfoo‘ Hadeeth narrated by Al-Muqdaam ibn Ma‘d Yakrib: "The Son of Adam will not fill a pot worse for himself than his stomach." [Reported by At-Tirmithi who deemed it Hasan (good) Hadeeth]

Al-Haafith Ibn Hajar, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: The two opinions can be reconciled in the way that rebuking is for the one who adopts filling his stomach as a habit for this lead to laziness about worship and the like. Also, this can be permissible for the one who does that rarely, especially after severe hunger and believing that no other food will be available in the near future."

- Hiding need and only making gestures is more appropriate than declaring and disclosing it explicitly.

- The great generosity of the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, and preferring guests to himself, family and servant.

- This Hadeeth refers to the difficult conditions and asceticism of some companions during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him. Thus, Muslim individual should follow their footsteps and show patience towards the difficulty or need that afflicts him until Allaah The Almighty grants him relief and makes thing easy for him.

- The great virtue of Abu Hurairah, may Allaah be pleased with him, and his abstaining from declaring his need and only made gestures for that, and giving precedence to the orders of the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, over his own wishes while he was in a bad need.

- The virtue of the people of Suffa and that the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, gave them precedence because of their need. The Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, used to give them what is given for him as charity and share with them what is given to him as a gift. Abu Na‘eem, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: "Number of the people of Suffa differ according to the different conditions. Sometimes, they may gather together and thus became large number. In some other times, they may disperse for a battle, journey or becoming rich and thus they become few number."

-        The prescription of asking for permission. This means that when the invited person reached the house of the inviter should not enter the house without a permission. Also, this Hadeeth refers to the prescription of seeking permission for the servant before entering the house of his master.

-        This Hadeeth implies that everyone should sit down in the place that befits him. Actually, this is a great etiquette that Muslim individual should adopt.

-        Humbleness of the Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, where he called Abu Hurairah, may Allaah be pleased with him, with his nickname along with removing the last syllable from it.

-        Ibn Hajar, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: "It implies acting on insight."

-        The Prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, accepted gift, shared it and preferring some of the poor people with it and abstaining from taking anything from charity and giving it to those who deserve it.

-        The one who gives drink to people should be the last one to drink and the host should drink after him.

-        The prescription of Praising Allaah The Almighty for His graces and saying Bismillah (In the Name of Allaah) before drinking.
