What are the Objectives of such Hadeeths?

Such Hadeeths aims to establish a strong relationship between the Muslim individual and the Noble Quran in a way that makes him adhere firmly to reciting, contemplating, and reacting positively with all what the Noble Quran calls for. This is to make the Muslim individual always busy with the Nobel Quran and pay all of his attention to it. This is the way of Salaf (i.e. our righteous predecessors) and in this way they become the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind and this what they entrusted to those who will come after them.

It was reported that ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattaab, may Allaah be pleased with him, said addressing the memorizers and companions of the Noble Quran: "O reciters of the Noble Quran, straighten your heads for the road was evidently made clear for you, thus you should compete in goodness and do not be a burden to the Muslim people.” (1).

It was narrated that Ibn Mas‘ood, may Allaah be pleased with him, said: "People who have memorized the Noble Quran should be known by the night when people are sleeping and he is awake, and by the morning when people are not fasting but he is, by his sadness when they are happy, by his crying when they are laughing, by his silence when they are slandering, and by his piety and humility when they are arrogant." (2).

It was narrated that Al-Hasan Al-Basri, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: "You have adopted the recitation of the Quran in stages (marahil) and have made the night [as if] a camel; by riding on it you pass the stages of the Quran. But those before you regarded it [as consisting of] messages which came from their Lord; they used to ponder over them at night and execute them by day." (3).

It was narrated that he, may Allaah have mercy upon him, also said: “Truly, this Quran is recited by slaves and children who have no knowledge of its interpretation, for they have not followed the matter from its beginning. Allah, The Almighty, says (what means): {[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.} [Quran 38: 29]

Pondering its signs deeply is no more than following it, and Allah knows best. But by Allah, it is not preserving its letters and wasting its limits! One of them even says, ‘I have recited the whole Quran without missing a single letter of it,’ although by Allah, he has missed it all, for the Quran is not seen in him in any of his character or deeds. Another even says, ‘Truly, I can recite a Surah in one breath’! By Allah, these are not reciters or people of knowledge or wisdom or spiritual caution!

When did real reciters ever say things like this? May Allah not make their like widespread amongst the people!” (4).

This is what the Islamic Nation should adopt with the Noble Quran. It should regard it, as Al-Hasan, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: "Messages which came from their Lord; they used to ponder over them at night and execute them by day." If this is really achieved, then Allah, The Almighty, will surely change its circumstances from worse to good and from good to better and get the real happiness of this life and the great reward of the Hereafter and this is what was proved by the Hadeeths stated previously.
