It was narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah, may Allaah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Every Prophet was given miracles because of which people believed, but what I have been given, is Divine Inspiration which Allah has revealed to me. So I hope that my followers will outnumber the followers of the other Prophets on the Day of Resurrection."

Firstly, The Verification of the Hadeeth:

It was reported by Imam Al-Bukhaari, may Allaah have mercy upon him, in the Book of the virtues of the Noble Quran, the chapter of how the Divine Revelation used to be revealed and what was the first thing revealed (4981), and in the Book of holding fast to the Quran and Sunnah, the chapter I have been sent with Jawaami‘ Al-Kalim' (eloquent and concise speech) (7274). It was also reported by Imam Muslim, may Allaah have mercy upon him, in the Book of Eman (faith), the chapter of the Obligation of believing that the message of our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is for all people, and the abrogation of all other religions (152).

Secondly, The Meaning of the Hadeeth:

This Hadeeth means that Allah, The Almighty, granted every one of the Prophets, may Allah exalt their mention, the thing that if it is seen, the witnesses have to believe in it. That is if the witnesses are impartial; otherwise, the miracle may be strong in its nature, abiding in its indication, however, the witnesses reject and oppose it. This is as what Allah, The Almighty, Says (what means): {And they rejected them, while their [inner] selves were convinced thereof, out of injustice and haughtiness. So see how was the end of the corrupters.} [Quran 27: 14]

Miracle is an extraordinary event that is explicitly or implicitly accompanied with challenge and Allah, The Almighty, cause it to occur on the hands of the one who claim prophethood. So if someone claimed to be a prophet and said: the proof of my truthfulness is that Allah, The Almighty, cause to occur on my hand what contradicts the normal traditions of people and then challenge people in groups and individuals to bring something like what he brought. They have many like him; rather, have more well known and more skillful in what he came with. However, they did nothing and became unable to do the same thing. Accordingly, there is no doubt that that this is a strong evidence and shinning proof on his truthfulness and that what he came with is from Allah, The Almighty.

Miracle in proving the truthfulness of the Prophet is like the words of Allah, The Almighty, if He The Exalted was to make us hear his words: "My worshiper is truthful in what he conveys on my behalf." Subsequently, if a miracle appears on one's hand and this accompanied by claiming prophethood, we necessary come to know that Allah, The Almighty, did not cause it to appear on his hand except as a way of proving his truthfulness. That is because it is impossible that Allah, The Almighty, supports him while he is untruthful for supporting the untruthful is a form of believing him and believing the liar is a form of lying and it is impossible for Allah, The Almighty, to lie.

Miracles of the Prophets, may Allah exalt their mention, are suitable for their times:

Allah, The Almighty, willed that the miracles of the Prophets, may Allah exalt their mention, are suitable to what the people of that particular prophet excelled at so that if the people failed to bring something like it, then this will be the greatest evidence on the truthfulness of the one whom such miracle appeared on his hand, especially, it appears on the hand of the one who is not known to be skillful at what the people of this time excelled at. For instance, the people of Prophet Moosa, may Allah exalt his mention, excelled at magic, mumbo jumbo, and hidden sciences, so Allah, The Almighty, granted him some miracles that befit well what was well known during his time. Therefore, the great miracle of Prophet Moosa, may Allah exalt his mention, was his staff; in his hand it will be lifeless, but when he throws it and it turned to a serpent that moves and swallow whatever in front of it.

Therefore, when Fir‘awn (pharaoh) gathered the magicians with their ropes and staffs until they seemed to witnesses from their magic that they were moving [like snakes], and Moses, may Allah exalt his mention, threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they falsified, magicians were the first to believe in Allah, The Almighty. That is because they come to know for certain that the staff of Moses, may Allah exalt his mention, has nothing to do with magic for they have the best knowledge of this matter and believed for sure that this cannot happen except from the One Who is most powerful and Who cannot be defeated in any way.

Recite the saying of Allah, The Almighty, in the Soorah of Ta-Ha: {They said, "O Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw." He said, "Rather, you throw." And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes].  And he sensed within himself apprehension, did Moses. Allah said, "Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior.  And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is." So the magicians fell down in prostration. They said, "We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses."} [Quran 20- 65-70]

Fir‘awn, as the defeated arrogant individuals usually do, found nothing to do except slandering them that he (i.e. Moses), may Allah exalt his mention, is their leader who has taught them magic. Fir‘awn threatened them to cut off their hands and their feet on opposite sides, and he will surely crucify them all on the trunks of palm trees. Such threat did nothing to them because they had a firm conviction in Allah, The Almighty, and His Messenger, may Allah exalt his mention. They said as Allah, The Almighty, Says (what means): {They said, "Never will we prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs and [over] He who created us. So decree whatever you are to decree. You can only decree for this worldly life.  Indeed, we have believed in our Lord that He may forgive us our sins and what you compelled us [to do] of magic. And Allah is better and more enduring."} [Quran 20: 72-73 ]

Likewise, Prophet ‘Eesa (Jesus), may Allah exalt his mention, was sent in a time in which people excelled at medicine and its sciences. So the miracle of Prophet ‘Eesa , may Allah exalt his mention, befitted well what was well known in his time. He, may Allah exalt his mention, used to design from clay [what was] like the form of a bird, then he breathe into it, and it became a bird with the permission of Allah, The Almighty. He, may Allah exalt his mention, also healed the one who was born blind and the leper, and bring forth the dead with the Permission of Allah, The Almighty. In this regard, Allah, The Almighty, Says (what means): {And He will teach him writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel. And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah . And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allah. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.} [Quran 3: 48-49]

In spite the fact that our Prophet ‘Eesa, may Allah exalt his mention, was not known to be one of those who excelled at medicine or practiced this profession before. Subsequently, the appearance of such things on his hand is a proof that they are from Allah, The Almighty, and that he is truthful regarding what he claimed (i.e. Prophethood).

When the seal of the Prophets and the best of humans i.e. Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was sent in a time in which human mind becomes complete and humans reached the age of puberty. He, peace and blessings be upon him, was chosen from among people whom were known to be excelled at eloquence, rhetoric language and skillful in the different forms of speech to the extent that the honored among them used to hope for being a great poet, eloquent orator. Thus, the greatest miracle of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is the Noble Quran that reached the highest degrees of eloquence and rhetoric language along with having the soundest speech, wisdom in legislation, truthfulness in meanings, nobility in aims and purposes, and sublimity in morals and manners.
