Episode 10: The allegory of the Sunnah 1/2

The meaning of allegory of the Sunnah: that the Sunnah is an authentic source of Islamic legislation, so that it is held good to rely upon and refer to in extrapolating rulings and proving accountability through it, and the Sunnah in this sense is a reasoning to be dutifully followed; this is indicated by:

1 – The Holy Quran.

2 – The sanctified Sunnah.

3 - The consensus of the nation.

4 – The mind and foresight.

 Firstly: The evidence of its allegory from the Holy Quran:

Various Holy Quranic verses, which indicate that the Sunnah is an outright proof, came in diverse arrangements and different modalities, to confirm this meaning in such a fashion as to eliminate all probability; and provide a proof that Allah means it and intends it specifically, and show that following it is follow the Quran.

These verses are according to types, and the one verse may include more than one type, I will be content with mentioning only four types.

The first type: that which indicates the duty to believe in him- peace be upon him-:

1 - The Almighty said: (So believe in Allah and His apostles: And if you believe and do right, you have a reward without measure) [Chapter Al-‘Imran /179].

2 - And the Almighty said: (And those who believe in Allah and His apostles- they are the Sincere (lovers of Truth), and the witnesses (who testify), in the eyes of their Lord: They shall have their Reward and their Light. But those who reject Allah and deny Our Signs, they are the Companions of Hell-Fire) [Chapter Al-Hadid /19].

3 - And the Almighty said: (O you who believe! Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and the scripture which He has sent to His Messenger and the scripture which He sent to those before (him)) [Chapter An-Nisa’ /136].

4 – And the Almighty said: (So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the Unlettered Prophet, who believes in Allah and His words: follow him that (so) you may be guided) [Chapter Al-A’raf /158].

5 - And the Almighty said: (Believe, therefore, in Allah and His Messenger, and in the Light which we have sent down. And Allah is well acquainted with all that you do) [Chapter At-Taghabun /8].

The Prophets and the Messengers are ambassadors of Allah to His creation; they convey to them His code and direct them to his guidance. From then, the belief in them became a duty, so that the wisdom behind sending them is not obstructed, and the benefit of reporting about Him, Almighty, is not missed.

And the command to believe in them, together with the command to believe in Him, Owner of Greatness and Majesty, is not understood unless faith is accompanied with belief in what they came up with, compliance with what they convey from Allah, submission and obedience to their guidance and direction; faith will not happen with non-compliance ever, and belief will not be achieved with non- submission, obedience and compliance with that which they inform about their Lord.

Our Apostle - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him –, we have the duty to believe in him due to the command to believe in all the Apostles, and his obedience too is a duty, as is the obedience of the Apostles understood from the command to believe in them.
