The fourth type: what points out to the obligation to follow his example, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, in all that which is issued from him.
The Almighty said: (You have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and who engages much in the Praise of Allah) [Al-Ahzab/21].
This noble verse specifies that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is the beautiful pattern of conduct, none else than him, and this example warrants following, obedience and compliance, and also warrants that he is, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, infallible with the infallibility of Allah, safeguarded by the safeguard of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, and that it pleased Allah that he be the role model, and that people should take him as a role model in everything, and how is that going to be achieved if there was no obedience and compliance?!.
Mohammed ibn 'Ali Al-Tirmidhi said: (the example in the messenger: his emulation and the following of his Tradition, and leaving his contravention in word or action. Judge 'Ayadh said: (more than one commentator said it in this sense)) (1).
Al-Aamidy said: (following the example of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was considered among the necessities of seeking Allah the Almighty and the Last Day, and not following the example amounts to nullifying the necessity, which is seeking Allah and the Last Day, and that is infidelity).
He also said: (Most of the imams among jurists and speakers agree that we worship by following his example in his actions, whether obligatory, recommended or permitted).
He also said: (and pursuance and follow the example in the action: that one does as he did, according to the manner he did, for the sole reason that he did) (2).
May Allah be pleased with the righteous companions, the extent to which they followed his example, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was such that they used to do what he does, and leave what he leaves, without knowing a reason for it, or ask him about the reason behind the regulation.
Bukhari and Muslim narrated according to their authentication from Abdullah bin Omar, may Allah be pleased with both of them, that he said: (The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to wear a ring of gold, he then disposed of it and said: ( "I will never wear it", so people disposed of theirs) (3).
Abu Dawood narrated from Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudary, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: (while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was praying with his companions, he took off his shoes and put them to his left, when the folk saw that, they threw their shoes away. When he had finished his prayer, he said: (What made you throw away your shoes?) They said: We saw that you put your shoe away, he said: (Gabriel informed me that they had dirt) (4).
The extent to which they went in complying with the order of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was such that they did so in the worldly affairs.
Abu Dawood narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with them both, he said: "When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, appeared in stately form on the pulpit on Friday, he said:" (sit down!) Ibn Mas'ood heard that, he sat in the doorstep of the mosque, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, saw him. He said: (Come, O Abdullah bin Mas'ood) (5).
Ibn 'Abd Al-Barr narrated from Abdullah ibn Rawaahah, may Allah be pleased with him, while on the road: he heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: (sit down!), he sat in the road. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, passed by him and said: (What's with you?), he said: "I heard you say: Sit down! So I did, the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: (May Allah increase your obedience). And according to another narration: (May Allah increase your assiduousness in the obedience of Allah and obedience of His Messenger). (6).
If the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, rose to such a degree, in following his example and complying with his order, so how is it with us, when we are dependent on them in jurisprudence and knowledge.
As-Sa'di said about the interpretation of the verse: (fundamentalists took this verse as an indication, to protest the actions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and the fundamental is that his nation is his example in the provisions, except that which is indicated by the juristic evidence as specifying him) (7).
